Alex Morgan Biography
Born on July 02, 1989, Alex Morgan is a professional soccer player who currently plays for Portland Thorns FC and the United States national team as a forward. She has won numerous honours in her international career and is currently one of the top scoring American female soccer players.
Morgan was born in California and was raised with her two elder sisters in the suburb of Diamond Bar, which is less than an hour away from Los Angeles. She began playing soccer, alongside a number of other different sports, from an early age. However, she began to blossom into the player that she is today when she started playing club soccer at the age of 14. During this period she played for Cypress Elite and went on to win the Coast Soccer League under-16s championship.
During this period she attended Diamond Bat High School and was named as an All-American in the sport by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, where she was noted for her speed and scoring ability. This led to a placement in the Olympic Development Program, where she played for both the regional and state teams. It was during this time that she developed into an international calibre player, leading to her being called up to the United States under-20s team.
Unfortunately, she suffered a tear to her anterior cruciate ligament during this period, which left her side-lined until her return to the game in April 2008.
Upon her return, Morgan played for the California Golden Bears during her years in college, where she led the team in scoring during her first year and helped them to reach the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Soccer Championship four years running.
Following her graduation from college, Morgan began playing in the Women’s Professional Soccer organisation and was the first draft pick during her first season. She began playing for Western New York Flash, scoring her first goal for the team during their first home game of the season. She also won the league title and WPS Championship Title during that first year.
She then joined a number of her international teammates to play for the Seattle Sounders in the 2012 season. However, her play time was limited due to her commitments to the national team, though she still managed two goals and two assists in the three games that she played.
She followed that up by joining Portland Thorns FC in 2013, with whom she won the National Women’s Soccer League championship title in her first year at the club. If anything, her achievements at the international level are even more impressive. Morgan has scored 53 goals in 92 appearances for the national team, helping to guide the team to Olympic gold in 2012 and the World Cup finals in 2015, where she played in all seven matches, including the finals victory over Japan.
Her success has resulted in the signing of a number of major endorsement deals and she is currently considered one of the best players in the women’s game today.
